War Music 1
war music.
for isabel.
helicopter girls is a game about twine, and 'messy queer art,' and cyberpunk, and anime, and body horror and the question of if there's such a thing as a transfemme aesthetic. it's also my funeral for a woman i never met and who is not dead.
i hope you enjoy.

this is fucking incredible, thank you so much for writing it.
i think this is the first piece of fiction i've ever read where i really felt like it was meant for me.
thank you.
Hey - Thank you so much for your comment, I really can't express how much it means to me. I saw your post on Twitter also, and have been struggling all morning with how to reply.
I think art is such a complicated thing because, of course, it's not really a dialogue. One person makes something - Another reaches for it, takes it, reinvents it in their own mind. You are never truly on the 'same page' even though one of you wrote it and one of you experienced it and the text is identical for you both.
And Yet (as i often say)
I think when you make something about an experience like being transfemme - an experience so fragile and beautiful it's like a shard of glass placed onto a house of cards - it is natural to hope that at least one of the people who engages with it will be Like You. 'Transfemmes have a community-shaped hole in their heart a mile wide...' as Porpentine said.
Twine was always where I found things which made it feel like I had a home, or that there were gurls out there like me, somewhere far away but very real. Where I found things which felt made for me, for and by other transfemmes. This is my attempt at the same, and I'm glad it resonated. And of course, you're right. This piece was meant for you - One day the world will be meant for us too.
